About
About Fairfind
Fairfind publishes short, sourced guides on one narrow question: what does UK law, and the police practice built on it, say to someone who finds money or property and does the right thing?
Why the name
“Fair find” is shorthand for the question behind every page. What is a fair outcome for the person who picks something up, hands it in and then wonders where they stand? The honest answer varies by nation, by police force and by where the money was found, and that variation is the reason a plain-English guide is useful. Most of what is published online either stops at “hand it to the police” or assumes the answer is the same everywhere.
How the guides are written
- Statements about the law link to the legislation itself, to Crown Prosecution Service guidance, or to published police policy.
- Where the picture differs between England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, we say so rather than average it out.
- Where a source is silent (for example, Northern Ireland’s guidance on rewards), we say it is silent instead of filling the gap.
- The main guide shows the month it was last reviewed, and pages are revisited when a source changes or a reader points out a mistake.
The full list of documents used, and what each one supports, is on the sources page.
How the site is paid for
Some pages carry a link to an independent online legal Q&A service. Those pages are labelled as advertisements, the links are marked as sponsored, and we may earn a commission if a reader signs up. The commission does not decide what the guide says; the description of what that service covers and what it excludes is taken from the service’s own public pages, including the parts that limit its usefulness for criminal-law questions.
What we are not
Fairfind is not a law firm, a regulated claims business or a police service. We cannot give legal advice, trace a lost item or help with an individual case. If you need advice on your own facts, see the options we describe, including the free ones.
Who publishes it
Fairfind is published by We Are Digital Marketing Limited, a private limited company (number 06074630). The full registered details are on the company details page. Corrections and questions go to hello@payoung.com.
